Description
Johnny Nigma
Johnny Nigma is a relative newcomer to the world of comedy, and is currently working at developing his unique act that includes an eclectic assortment of surreal stand-up, peculiar props and bizarre chaos magick. After ‘headlining’ with a ten-minute appearance at the inaugural Hay-on-Wye Fringe Festival’s (www.hayfringe.com) “Open Mic Night” with his first ever shot at doing stand-up comedy as a direct result from a challenge issued by the mysterious entities behind the art project “I Could Do Better Than That” (www.icoulddobetterthanthat.com) and his second gig gaining him a place in the semi-finals of the BBC..s “Funny Business” (www.funnybusiness.org.uk) competition, the world may well be his lobster!
At the moment he is “Gagging for Gigs” and looking for Open Spot opportunities as part of his ‘Open Mic Hunt Tour’ around Wales and across the UK, where he can practice his subversive activities involving the dark arts of humour and continue in his desire to possess as wide a range of skills and experience on the comedy circuit as possible.
Audiences have witnessed that his act comes along with a lot of personal baggage, and the improvised impromptu content of his spontaneous sets covers a diverse range of material such as sadistic magic tricks, mentalism, hypnotism, science-fiction, Harry Potter, strange books, Klingon jokes, chickens, rabbits, psychic props, weird inventions, offal, blood and goatsuckers.
His stage act is presented with a distinctive Welsh flavour, and has already drawn comparisons with the likes of Tommy Cooper, Harry Hill and Joe Pasquale.
He has been dubbed ‘The Shadow of Evil’ by those in the know (and they know!) and has made a number of cameo appearances by popping up as an extra, audience member and media whore in a varied assortment of films and TV programmes.
As well as being editor of “HOAX!” the seminal magazine for pranksters, and one of the founding disorganisers of Santacon (www.santacon.co.uk) in the UK, he has been involved with instigating a myriad of highly successful media hoaxes that have propagated pranks locally, nationally and internationally under a variety of pseudonyms and devious disguises. These experiences have allowed him to provide advice and assistance with the promotional campaign and publicity marketing for the Welsh Comedy Festival (www.welshcomedyfestival.com).
As a self-confessed humour addict, due to his passion for comedy and love of stand-up comedy, in 2006 he was short-listed for the Edinburgh Festival Perrier/IF.Comeddies Awards (as a panel Judge selected from members of the public).
He is currently working on new characters and material for his stand-up act, as well as developing various script proposals for radio and TV.
